5782 Pure Olives The Parshah begins ויקחו אליך שמן זית זך. Many people think that שמן זית זך means pure olive oil, the word זך meaning pure and it’s going on שמן. However, the simple explanation, based on the Rishonim, is not like that. On the word זך, Rashi writes בלי שמרים כמו ששנינו במנחות (פו א) מגרגרו בראש הזית וכו'. The Gemara in Menachos says הזית הראשון, מגרגרו בראש הזית which means the olive from the top of the tree was בלי שמרים....
